If you’re not a fan of poetic landscapes, pink castles, fairytale horses, furry hens, and romantic tables, you might want to close your eyes! Ever since that charming pink manor in Blekinge, south of Sweden, popped up in our feed a couple of years back, we’ve been buzzing to visit! When Tove Hammerin reached out with her exciting idea of dressing up the grand mirror hall tables with our Midnatt textiles, we knew it was a match made in heaven.

Over the years, it’s been a joy to see our curated tabletop pieces brighten up lovely breakfast spreads and seasonal celebrations at the manor. This summer, we couldn’t resist and finally made the trip to catch up with Tove and Benjamin at Hoby Kulle Herrgård.
Each room has such personality and soul. Are there any key values or sources of inspiration that guide you when decorating?
I believe that’s exactly it; each room has gained its own soul and has been allowed to keep it. Some rooms have taken several years to feel just right, and I’ve rearranged them more times than I can count. It’s all about the feeling I get when I enter the room. In the early years, I mostly wanted to avoid having the rooms be “too perfect” and identical, and now I’ve handpicked every vase, pillow, stool, mirror, and fabric for each room. I only have things I truly love in the rooms.
Any favorite stories or legends from the manor’s history to share with us? (Read: Do you have ghosts?)
Haha, I’m sorry to disappoint some, but I’ve only felt good energies here. Many guests have said they’ve sensed ghosts and had visits during the night, and it may sound cliché, but I (who am not particularly spiritual) am certain that the housekeeper or previous owners are happy we’re here, warming up the house, renovating it carefully, and giving the estate new life (after it stood empty for many years before we bought it). But I do have a story from an evening many years ago… We had some fashion profiles who have now become friends visiting, and we had grilled and eaten in the Orangery. Then I just wanted to show the guests their bedrooms, and when we went up to the room with the large wardrobe, which was the only piece of furniture in the manor when we moved in, the guests asked about ghosts. I answered just like I am now, that I hadn’t felt anything except that every time I clean this room, I close the wardrobe door, but every time I come back in, the door is open again. So, I grabbed the handle to show them, and then the whole room went dark, and all the electricity went out in the entire manor. It became quite a story to tell!

What is your favorite room or space at Hoby Kulle?
There are so many rooms I love, and after every time we’ve completed a new project or renovation, I always end by saying, “this is the prettiest we have now,” so I feel love for all the rooms. But both Benjamin and I have our favorite rooms, which are not the ones that have been seen the most. Mine is the room with the wardrobe, Furness, because of the most beautiful evening light, lovely energy, and floor. Benjamin’s favorite is our smallest room, Rosén.
How do you want to set the table for your guests this Summer?
This summer, I want to set the tables in the garden and Orangery with lots of color, featuring long tablecloths and preferably matching napkins in pink. I love how cute the pink hearts look, especially with the fairytale horses as a backdrop, and I love to set a long table with lemon embroidery tablecloths. I want a lot of glass on the tables and am currently leaning towards a simpler table setting. I’m more and more tempted to keep everything simple for our own wedding that we are planning soon. I know I want the sunflower napkins from Midnatt with the guests’ names embroidered on them, though.
And how will you make their beds?
The beds should be inviting, with fluffy duvets, many pillows, and sunny textiles. Since not all our bedrooms have their own bathrooms, it has been especially important for me to focus and invest in bedding, duvets, mattresses, and pillows. Right now, I’m obsessed with bedspreads and have just found white crocheted bedspreads with beautiful patterns; each one is like a work of art.
Any Instagram accounts to recommend for those who want to inhale more of those dream-like environments and romantic lifestyles?
I follow so many different accounts for various inspirations, but my go-tos are always these.
(I dream that we can live a bit slower in the future and enjoy our estate, children, and animals more.)
International: Callie Coles and Château de Gudanes. And swedish (If I’m only to pick two): Ellen Dixdotter och Anna Kubel.
